Burglars Steal Marlboro Cigarettes

Burglars broke into a W. Broad Street store Friday night and stole $450 worth of Marlboro cigarettes and $125 worth of cigars, police said. It happened at the Sunoco service station sometime between 9 p.m. Friday and 5:50 a.m. Saturday, says a report by Cookeville Police Officer Luke Ward. The burglars tossed a large piece of concrete through a window to gain entry, causing $500 damage just getting in, the report says. A worker who came to open the business Saturday discovered the damage, and inventory showed what was stolen.

Detective Sgt. David Gragg responded to the scene and began an investigation.

It is one of several burglaries under investigation by law officers in the city and the county. Among the cases are these:

* At the Green Radish store on South Cedar Street on Thursday night, burglars threw a piece of a cinder block through a glass door, entered, and stole about $20 in cash, says a report by Officer Roy Chestnut. Damage to the door was estimated at $300.

* At a residence on Pond View Circle last week, a burglar broke into the garage and stole a 2005 Suzuki 250 Ozark, says a report by Putnam Sheriff's Deputy Jamie Greenwood.

* A thief stole a 5x8 trailer out of a lot at Stone Steel on East 15th Street recently, says a report by Officer Craig Wilkerson. The trailer is a tilt style lawnmower trailer with a mesh floor. It is valued at $800.

* On April 5, someone stole a 5x6 black mesh dump trailer from behind the owner's house on Hulon Ferrell Road, says a report by Deputy Tony Sherrell. The thief also took an 18-inch Homelite chainsaw.

* Burglars entered a residence on Locust Grove Road on April 4 and stole an XBox 360, a game controller, a game, and a 47-inch plasma TV, says a report by Deputy Larry Bennett.

* Thieves stole solar lights which the owner had placed along her sidewalk at her South Drive residence on April 6, says a report by Deputy Trevor Barrett.

  1. Are you paying more than $5 per pack of cigs? I buy my cigs at Duty Free Depot and I save over 60% on cigs.
